Silver Maurice Verneuil Art Nouveau Poppy Graphic Glass Pendant
Silver Maurice Verneuil Art Nouveau Poppy Graphic Glass Pendant
This shimmering, sparkling pendant is a real show-stopper! Based on a bending poppy motif by Art Nouveau artist Maurice Verneuil, this delicate design was meticulously etched into dichroic glass. The detail on this piece is amazing! Because of the nature of the crystalline structure of dichroic glass, it is literally impossible to photographically capture the true beauty and depth of the colours of this piece. It truly must be seen in person to really appreciate it!
Pendant is 1 3/4 inches wide by 2 inches tall with sterling silver bail. Shown at left with optional chains.
Created using dichroic glass (literally 'two-coloured', a hand-rolled sheet of glass with a microscopic crystalline structure painstakingly grown onto the surface). Each pendant is meticulously hand cut from several layers of glass, hand shaped, precisely etched with a design, composed and then fired to temperatures of 1450 degrees Fahrenheit, and carefully cooled and annealed. Annealing ensures that internal stresses are slowly dissipated so that the pendant doesn't explode or break for no reason at a later date (for the same reason a glass jar full of hot liquid would suddenly shatter if run under a tap of cold water to cool it off).
