Quiet Anticipation Cuff Bracelet
Quiet Anticipation Cuff Bracelet
The funny thing about crows is that I love them and hate them at the same time. They always seem to be up to no good, but they are an essential component in many myths around the world. Oddly, they are often considered good luck and bad luck simultaneously. They take on the role of the ‘trickster’ along with Loki of Norse mythology and Hermes (or Mercury) of Ancient Greek and Roman mythology. They are always waiting for an opportunity, quietly anticipating the right moment to turn a situation to their favour. A forceful catalyst for change in stories, they often bring it when it’s most needed. This original, one of a kind cuff-style bracelet is 9 5/8 inches x 2 3/8 inches in size. It is a mixed-media piece that incorporates my original photography (transferred to fabric), Swarovski crystals, acrylic paint, dupioni silk, Indian jacard silk, hand-embroidery, tulle, cotton, leather, India ink, and beads. The words have been sealed with an artists’ medium. It is COMPLETELY hand-sewn right down to the button-hole – every stitch is my own. As a courtesy to the buyer, I sewed the button in place once I received their preferred measurements. I really appreciate the look and feel of completely hand-constructed objects, so I always try to do everything myself in my art. I was surprised at how light and comfortable this piece was when I finished it; you can barely feel it on your wrist (it’s backed with the same ivory-coloured dupioni silk that my wedding dress is made of)! The images at left really do not do this piece justice, even though I’ve tried to make the colours as accurate as possible.
