About
This site is the culmination of a lifetime of work and study. It is not only a vital creative outlet for me, but also a means of supporting my family while still being available to them whenever they need me. It is my hope that the content and art here will not only express my own thoughts, but will resonate in the hearts of others as well – a quiet kinship. I think that it is so hard to connect with people in our lonely society, and I believe that art provides a way of reaching out to people on a very primal level.
The art, jewelry, and everything else I create is more than something useful or pretty to look at, but an expression of an idea, ideology, symbol, or archetype. I believe that certain truths and wisdom are universal and timeless and they will always be relevant, no matter what the age. I am still, of course, learning and growing and I try to explore what I’ve gained from life through my art.
I love the interplay of light through gemstones, crystal, and glass and have included at least one of these elements in almost all of my jewelry. Texture and a sense of time and transience are major themes in my art and accessories, as are colour and composition. My paper products also heavily feature a sense of the tactile incorporating interesting textures and images.
I believe that what you surround yourself with is a reflection of your personality. Everything on this site is handmade by me using the best materials I can. I am proud of the craftsmanship I put into the work I do and I don’t sell it if I wouldn’t be proud to wear, display, or use it myself. If you are interested in custom couture work for you or as a gift, please contact me.
A Little About Me
I graduated from the University of Victoria in 2005 with a Bachelor Degree in Art History and a minor in Computer Science. I studied a variety of topics ranging from Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics to Economics, Japanese, Art History, and Art. A desire to create something aesthetically pleasing to contribute to the well-being of others was always the unconscious heart of my studies, whether it be through art, jewelry, writing, or any other of the forms of creative expression.
I have always had a passion for Ancient and Modern culture and mythologies, in fact, I remember sneaking inside at recess and lunch when I was in middle school to read the Greek and Roman mythologies textbook we were studying from. Historically and thematically recurring archetypes and symbolism is particularly fascinating to me, especially expressed through visual art, architecture, writing, and music.
British Columbia has been my home my whole life, and I’ve lived on Vancouver Island for more than half of that. I am fascinated by the natural and fabricated world, especially when they are juxtaposed against each other. I have also briefly traveled to parts of Europe. I cannot express how amazing it is to bask in cultures where the roads and buildings are older than my country. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been face to face, however briefly, with some of the world’s great jewels of civilization, and am still inspired by the experience.
